Silybum marianum has other common names including cardus marianus, blessed milkthistle, Marian thistle, Mary thistle, Saint Mary's thistle, Mediterranean milk thistle, variegated thistle and Scotch thistle. Originally a native of Southern Europe through to Asia, it is now found throughout the world.
This plant is widely known and highly praised due to the powerful organic components found in its seeds. It is from milk thistle seeds that the extract is derived, which includes high concentrations of silymarin, the most unique and active ingredient in the extract. The extract also contains various fatty acids, including linoleic acid.
