The habanero is a hot variety of chili pepper. Unripe habaneros are green, and they color as they mature. The most common variants are orange and red. Habanero chilis are very hot, rated 100,000–350,000 on the Scoville scale. For comparison, a typical jalapeno ranks at 2,500 to 5,000. Don’t worry, the small amount we use won’t be a problem.
Spiciness isn't all the habanero has going for it; it's also packed full of vitamin C. A single habanero pepper contains more than 100 percent of your recommended daily intake of vitamin C albeit a very hot intake
That spiciness comes from capsaicin, and an ever-increasing body of research shows that people who regularly eat spicy foods rich in capsaicin, live longer than those who don't. They are also less likely to die from cancer, heart disease and respiratory disease.
